The Long Term Living Association was just an idea back in 2009 and then officially launched in the fall of 2016 to address the multiple challenges faced by an aging population.
Through his work in the long term care planning and insurance field, Michael B. FitzPatrick saw firsthand that there were many gaps in the services and guidance provided in these areas of health, financial literacy and empowerment, psychological well-being and a sense of dignity and purpose. Even more impactful, were the observations he made as he worked with consumers trying to fund long term care and the professionals who serve them.
Again and again, Michael drew the same conclusions:
What would happen, Michael asked, if the proactive segment of the long term living world (e.g., the planning component), could be brought into line with the reactive element, (e.g., the services and care component) needed following a major health event or life-altering circumstance. Michael was convinced that much of the pain and suffering he and his peers were witnessing could be alleviated by providing consumers with an easy way to navigate the intimidating tangle of services, providers and funding options.
He began by vetting as many as 20 candidates in each of the professions providing long term living services. Following an arduous selection process, he assembled a consortium of professionals at the top of their respective fields and best equipped to help consumers access and manage the diverse services that support long term living. In the summer of 2015, he transformed his ideas into reality and founded the Long Term Living Association.
